New Toronto Restaurant Guide on Summer Bestseller List

Toronto, ON – September 25, 2002 --- Toronto’s new independently published guide to over 300 good inexpensive restaurants, Cheapeats Toronto 2002, is on The Cookbook Store’s summer bestseller list and it’s selling off the shelves at independent bookstores across the city. Over 800 copies of Cheapeats Toronto 2002 have been sold in the two months since the book’s mid-July launch.

The reasons for the book's high sales are straightforward: "Cheapeats Toronto is selling so well because it's good and accurate," says Mika Bareket, manager Book City (Annex store). She adds, "No one is adverse to a good, cheap meal!"

"Cheapeats is a must-have for anyone who wants a satisfying meal without having to sacrifice their paycheque and their first-born child for it,” says Alison Fryer, manager of The Cookbook Store. “A well deserved best seller in our store," says Fryer.

This best-selling guide saves readers money and helps them explore the city’s broad range of cuisines, styles and scenes through direct and sometimes irreverent recommendations of over 300 restaurants, in 55 cuisines and 43 neighbourhoods where they can get Breakfast for less than $5, Lunch and Brunch for $10 and Dinner for $15.

Cheapeats Toronto 2002 also features 38 national and local celebrities - Pamela Wallin, Mike Bullard, Dini Petty, Heather Mallick, Jan Wong, Avril Benoit, Hawksley Workman, Josey Vogels, Bob Blumer, Elizabeth Baird, Mark Dailey, Michael Smith, and others - sharing their favourite Toronto cheapeats.

In addition, Cheapeats Toronto 2002 provides rating for budget, food quality, cleanliness and style, as well as icons identifying Friendly Service, Full Tummy, Smoking, Patios, and more.

Cheapeats Toronto’s 9 reviewers introduce their favourite spots and share their impressions and experiences in cheapeats across the city, then tell you what to order and what meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is the best value. Reviewers include writers, restaurateurs, chefs and foodies including Yvonne Desjardins, publisher of What’s on Queen magazine and professional food writer; Philip Brown, owner of The Riverdale Perk Cafe; and Sarah Quadri, freelance journalist.

Cheapeats Toronto 2002 is available at The Cookbook Store, Book City, Pages, This Ain’t the Rosedale Library and other independent bookstores around the city. Cheapeats Toronto 2002 should be available at select Indigo and Chapters locations by mid-October.
